Gutter Installation That Starts at the Roof Edge

A gutter is a simple part with one job: catch the water coming off the roof and put it somewhere it cannot do harm. Most gutter problems we see are not about the metal. They are about what the metal is fastened to and where the water goes next.

So we look at the roof edge before we quote a gutter. Fascia, soffit, drip edge and the first course of decking all sit in the same wet zone. New metal hung on soft wood looks good for a season and then pulls loose.

Jacob or Jordan is on every job, and the same two crews have run our work for nine years. We are licensed with the Mississippi State Board of Contractors (25203-MC) and based in Flowood, serving central Mississippi. Call 601-724-4282 for a free inspection.

There is no sales team here. You talk to Jacob or Jordan directly, and a superintendent runs every job.

Climate fit

Why Gutters Matter on Mississippi Rain

Rain here tends to come hard and fast, and Gulf storms push heavy bands inland through the warm months. A roof sheds all of that water to its edges in minutes.

Without a working gutter, that water falls straight down beside the foundation and soaks the soil against the slab.

Central Mississippi clay swells when it is wet and shrinks when it dries. Water dumped at the same corner storm after storm keeps that cycle going right where the house sits.

Seamless K-style

Seamless vs Sectional Gutters

We install seamless K-style gutters. The difference from box-store gutter is where the joints are.

Sectional

Sold in fixed lengths and joined together on the house. Every joint is a sealant line, and sealant cracks under years of Mississippi heat. That is where most sectional gutters start to drip.

Seamless

Formed to the length of each run, so there are no joints along the straight sections. The only seams are at corners and outlets, where they can be sealed and checked.

K-style profile

The flat back and shaped front that most homes in the region already have. It holds more water than a half-round of similar width and sits clean against the fascia.

Hangers and pitch

Hidden hangers fastened into solid fascia, set so the trough falls toward the outlet. A gutter hung dead level holds standing water, and standing water is what rusts, sags and breeds mosquitoes.

Cause and fix

What Causes Each Gutter Problem

A gutter failure is usually a symptom. We find the cause before we price the repair.

Clogging

Leaves, pine straw and shingle grit settle in the trough and block the outlet. Water backs up and spills over the front edge, often right over a door or walkway.

Sagging

A full gutter is heavy. Spikes work loose, hangers spread too far apart, and the trough pulls away from the house. If the fascia behind it is soft, new hangers will not hold either.

Rust and leaks

Older galvanized steel gutters rust from the inside where water stands. Once the metal is thin, patches do not last. Aluminum does not rust.

Fascia rot

Water that gets behind the gutter soaks the fascia board. It shows up as peeling paint, a stained soffit or a gutter that will not stay tight. We repair the wood before new metal goes up.

Straight answers

When Gutter Guards Earn Their Place

Guards get oversold. Here is what is true.

  • They cut how often you clean. They do not end it, and fine debris still collects on top.
  • They pay off under pines and hardwoods. On an open lot with no trees nearby, they are rarely worth the money.
  • Cheap screens can clog on the surface and send water sheeting over the front, which is worse than no guard.
  • A guard on a gutter that is pitched wrong or hung on soft fascia only hides the problem for longer.

We fit guards when they will help and tell you when they will not. If your gutters fail because of pitch, hangers or rotted wood, we fix that first.

Where the water goes

Downspouts and Drainage

A gutter only helps if the water ends up somewhere useful. A downspout that empties at the corner of the slab moves the problem a few feet and leaves it there.

Downspouts get placed where they can carry the most roof with the least overflow. At the bottom, the water needs a path away from the foundation. On many homes, an extension and a splash block do the job.

Where the yard slopes back toward the house, or a downspout sits by a walkway or patio, an underground drain line can carry the water out past the footing. It costs more, and we only recommend it when the site calls for it.

Commercial

Commercial Gutters and Downspouts

Offices, churches, retail strips and other light commercial buildings put a lot of roof into a few outlets. Downspouts often drop beside entrances, sidewalks and parking, where overflow is a slip hazard and a liability.

We size the outlets and place the downspouts for the roof area and the traffic below it, and we coordinate the gutter work with the roof system when both are on the table. For the roof itself, see commercial roofing.

Gutter Repair, Rehang or Replace

Plenty of gutters only need work. You should know which one you are buying and why.

  • Repair: a leaking corner resealed, a loose run rehung, pitch corrected so water reaches the outlet
  • Replace: metal rusted or dented along most of the roofline, or sections patched over and over
  • Fascia first: when the board behind the gutter is soft, the gutter comes down and the wood gets fixed. See fascia and soffit repair
  • Roof first: when overflow is really a roof edge or flashing problem, we say so and point you to roof repair

How a Gutter Quote Works

Every quote starts with a visit to the house. On a new gutter system, we measure every run and mark where each downspout will go, so you can see where the water will leave the roof before anything is hung.

On an existing system, we look for what is going wrong and why: overflow, sagging, leaking seams, water landing against the foundation, soft wood behind the gutter. Sometimes the fix is a repair. If the system needs replacing, we look for ways to make the new one work better than the old one, like an added downspout, a larger outlet or a better place to send the water.

You get a written, itemized scope: the runs, the outlets and downspouts, any guards, and any fascia or drainage work. You approve the scope before any work starts.

The things that move a gutter quote are the length of the runs, the number of stories, the number of corners and outlets, and the condition of the wood behind the old gutter. We price what your house needs, not what is on the truck.

We hold a 5 star rating across more than 100 Google reviews. Call 601-724-4282 to set up an inspection.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you install seamless gutters?

Yes. We install seamless K-style gutters, formed to the length of each run so the only seams are at corners and outlets.

How much does gutter installation cost?

It depends on the length of the runs, the number of stories, the corners and downspouts, and whether the fascia behind the old gutter is sound. We inspect the roof edge and give you a written, itemized quote.

Are gutter guards worth it?

Under pines and hardwoods, usually yes, as long as the gutters themselves are sound. Guards reduce cleaning rather than ending it. On an open lot they are often not worth the cost, and we will tell you that.

Can you repair my gutters instead of replacing them?

Often, yes. Resealing a corner, adding hangers and correcting pitch solve a lot of calls. Replacement makes sense when the metal is failing along most of the roofline or the fascia work means the gutter has to come down anyway.

Do you fix rotted fascia behind the gutters?

Yes. On many gutter jobs the wood behind the gutter is the real work. We repair the fascia before new gutters go up, not around it.
