On the roof
Roofing Company Serving Flowood, MS
Flowood is the one city on this list where we do not have to explain the drive. Our shop is at 721 Liberty Rd, inside the city limits, on the same short street as Flowood Liberty Park at 694 Liberty Rd. When a Flowood roof leaks, the trucks are already here.
Dickerson Contracting is licensed through the Mississippi State Board of Contractors, number 25203-MC, insured, BBB accredited and 5 star rated across more than 100 Google reviews. Jacob or Jordan runs every job with a superintendent on site, and the roof is built by one of the two crews we have trusted for over nine years.
Every job here starts the same way it does anywhere else: in the attic and on the roof, with photographs you keep whether you hire us or not, and one written price before anything comes off.
We set expectations up front and we do not over-promise. You approve every dollar before it becomes a bill.

In the field
What Flowood Weather Has Actually Done
On 28 December 2024 an EF1 tornado tracked northeast across Medical Parkway and Airport Road at about 110 miles an hour. The National Weather Service survey recorded minor structural damage along Lakeland Drive through the commercial area around the Dogwood Festival, damage through neighborhoods between Lakeland Drive and the Spillway, and further east, shingles removed from several houses.
It was not the first. An EF1 in April 2018 began near Jackson Prep along Lakeland Drive and produced what the Weather Service described as scattered minor structural damage, mainly to roofs, with businesses damaged near Grants Ferry Road. In April 2008 straight-line winds between 80 and 100 miles an hour hit hardest from the Dogwood Festival across Old Fannin Road and along Highway 25 to Grants Ferry. A 2005 downburst 25 miles long ran through Flowood and Pearl, and the Weather Service simply wrote that many homes sustained damage to roofs.
Hail comes with it. Quarter to half dollar size fell at Bass Pro Shops in February 2016, quarter size ran from the River Oaks area to Bay Pointe in March 2017, and golf ball size crossed Flowood and the eastern reservoir shore in May 2009.
Permits, Codes and the Flood Zone Box
Flowood adopted the 2021 family of international codes in May 2023, with one notable exception: the electrical code here is still the 2014 edition. Permits come from the city at 2101 Airport Road.
The residential permit application is worth a look before you hire anyone, because it asks two things most cities do not put on the same page. It wants your contractor state license number, and it wants the flood zone of the work site. In a city where roughly 47 percent of the land area sits in the 1 percent annual chance floodplain, that box is not a formality.
Whether a straight re-roof needs a permit here is a question we answer by asking rather than guessing. The city permit categories do not name roofing separately, so we confirm with the building department on your address and pull whatever the job actually requires.
Water Is the Flowood Problem
Every city in this metro gets rain. Flowood has to plan around it. The city requires the lowest floor of new construction and substantial improvements to sit at least 18 inches above the base flood elevation, a foot and a half above the federal minimum, and it requires a separate floodplain development permit with a minimum of three inspections for work in a special flood hazard area.
On the roof, that translates into caring about where water goes after it leaves the shingles. Documented street flooding here has closed Airport Road at Liberty Road, Grants Ferry at Abundance Place and Flowood Drive more than once. Gutters, downspout runs and grading are part of the conversation on a Flowood roof, not an upsell after it.
Storm Damage and Insurance Claims
Plenty of Flowood re-roofs start with weather rather than a plan. We photograph the damage, meet your adjuster on the roof, and handle the supplement if the carrier scope comes up short. On a covered claim, you pay your deductible. That is it.

Common questions
Are you really based in Flowood?
Yes. The shop is at 721 Liberty Rd, inside the city limits, on the same street as Flowood Liberty Park. Flowood is not a service area we drive to, it is the address on our license.
Do I need a permit to re-roof in Flowood?
The city does not list roofing as its own permit category, so we confirm with the Flowood building department for your address rather than guess. Whatever the job requires, we pull it.
Does the flood zone affect my roof job?
It can affect the paperwork. Flowood asks for the flood zone on the residential permit application and requires a separate floodplain development permit for work in a special flood hazard area. Roughly 47 percent of the city land area is in the 1 percent annual chance floodplain.
Will insurance cover a storm-damaged roof?
On a covered claim, you pay your deductible. That is it. We document the damage, meet your adjuster on site and handle the claim paperwork alongside the work.
