Valleys

When water is actively entering living space, the first job is to protect the interior and stabilize the roof. Tarping or temporary dry-in is used when weather, access and safety allow, then permanent repair follows as soon as materials and conditions permit.
Emergency response is still diagnosis-driven. A tarp over the wrong slope does not help a wall flashing leak. We look before we cover so temporary measures reduce water, not just create a sense of activity.
