Residential Roofing in Mississippi
Residential roofing and full roof replacement for central Mississippi homes, with an owner on every job and a written quote that holds.

On the roof
Residential Roofing Built for Central Mississippi
A residential roof in central Mississippi takes heat that softens shingles by mid-afternoon, humidity that drives algae and granule loss, and spring storms that stack hail and wind in the same week. The system has to be chosen for that climate, not for a brochure photo from a different region.
Residential roofing here means more than swapping shingles. It is the deck, the underlayment, the flashings at walls and valleys, the ridge ventilation, and how water leaves the roof during a hard Gulf rain. Miss any of those and the shingle color is the least of your problems.
Dickerson Contracting installs residential roofs across Brandon, Flowood, Jackson, Madison, Pearl, Ridgeland, Clinton and Vicksburg from our shop at 721 Liberty Rd in Flowood. Jacob or Jordan runs every job with a superintendent on site, and the roof is built by one of the two crews we have trusted for over nine years.
If you are comparing a full roof replacement to a patch, start here. We specify, price and install steep-slope residential systems, and we say when repair still makes sense versus a complete tear-off.
Most of our work still comes from word of mouth. We set expectations up front, we do not over-promise, and nothing reaches your bill that you did not approve first.
Repair or replace
When a Roof Replacement Is the Honest Answer
Many homeowners call looking for a small repair and leave with a clear recommendation either way. We will repair when the roof still has life. We will recommend full residential roof replacement when the deck, underlayment or overall wear means money spent on patches will not protect the house for long.
Common signs the system is past a safe repair:
- Widespread granule loss across the shingle field
- Multiple active leaks, not one traceable entry point
- Soft decking underfoot
- Repeated storm hits on an already older shingle field
- Flashings that have been reworked several times already
- A 20-plus-year shingle roof in this sun. Age alone is not the whole story, but it earns a hard look
A full residential roof replacement on a typical metro home is measured in days of weather-friendly work once materials are staged, not weeks of open house. You get a written scope, a start window and a contact for the crew before we tear anything off.
If you need storm documentation first, start with our storm damage roof repair process, then come back for the full install path.

Materials
Shingle Systems We Install on Homes
Five manufacturers, one install standard. Which system goes on your house depends on slope, exposure and neighborhood rules, not what is on the truck:
- GAF
- Architectural shingle systems, installed to manufacturer standards.
- Owens Corning
- Architectural laminates, the everyday workhorse on most metro homes.
- Tamko
- Alternative when budget, color or an HOA restriction rules out the first choice.
- Eagle
- Specified when the house or the neighborhood calls for a different profile.
- DECRA
- Stone-coated metal, for a longevity or design goal a shingle will not meet.
Impact-rated products matter in hail corridors. We specify the shingle your roof needs for slope, exposure and neighborhood rules, not whatever is left on a supplier truck that week. Color samples and manufacturer literature come to the site visit so you can decide with the house in front of you.
When a patch is the right call
Repair First When the Roof Still Has Life
Not every call ends in a full residential roof replacement. These are honest repair jobs when the surrounding field is sound:
- Localized storm damage
- A failed pipe boot
- A short valley problem
- A few missing tabs
Repairs still need diagnosis. Water stains on a ceiling often sit far from the entry point. We trace flashings, valleys and penetrations before we open a nail bag. Details live on our roof repair page when your job is clearly repair-scale.
If a repair is temporary while you plan a full system, we will say so in writing. Temporary measures and permanent residential roofing work are different scopes, and mixing them without saying so creates false confidence.

What moves the number
Pricing, Quotes and What Affects Cost
A simple ranch is a different job from a steep two-story with multiple valleys. Six things move a residential roofing price:
Squares of material
Roof area from an aerial measurement report, checked against what we see on the roof.
Pitch and stories
Steeper and higher means slower, more staging and more safety equipment.
Layers to tear off
One layer or three changes both labor and disposal.
Decking condition
Sound wood stays. Soft wood is replaced, and unknown decking is called out in the quote before we start.
Chimneys and skylights
Every penetration is a flashing detail, and flashing details are where roofs leak.
Access
Where the dumpster and materials can sit affects how the whole day runs.
We do not publish a fake per-square number that ignores those variables. After the site visit you get a written number broken out so you can see where money goes. That agreed price is what you are billed barring documented extras such as unexpected decking.
Financing questions and insurance timelines are separate from the construction quote. If a claim is involved, we keep the repair or replacement scope aligned with documented damage. We do not inflate the file.

Common questions
What warranty comes with a residential roof?
The manufacturer warrants the materials, and that paperwork comes from them and matches exactly what we installed. Our side is the workmanship. Our guarantee is the one we can always keep: we do what we say we will, and we set expectations up front rather than over-promising.
How long does a residential roof replacement take?
Most full replacements on typical metro homes finish in a few days of weather-friendly work after materials are staged. Steep, complex or multi-layer roofs take longer. You get a start window and a crew contact before tear-off begins.
Will you repair instead of replace when that is smarter?
Yes. If the surrounding roof is sound and the problem is localized, we quote repair. If stacked repairs will not protect the house, we say so and quote a full residential roof system with a written scope.
Do you tear off old shingles or install over them?
We tear off to the bare deck, every time. That is how we see and fix soft wood, and it means your underlayment and flashings are new, not layered over a failing system. We do not install over old shingles.
