Roof Repair in Jackson, MS

Done properly a repair protects everything around it. Done carelessly it moves the leak somewhere harder to find. We trace water back to where it actually entered rather than sealing the nearest suspicious spot.

On Jackson's older stock that distinction earns its keep. A house that has been re-roofed twice has layers of previous decisions in it, and the leak is usually at one of the seams between them.

Most of our work still comes from word of mouth. We set expectations up front, we do not over-promise, and nothing reaches your bill that you did not approve first.

What Hinds County Weather Has Done

The record is specific and it is worth reading before deciding a roof is fine. On 17 April 2022 the National Weather Service described large hail in a swath from near Raymond through the south side of Jackson, with pictures showing stones up to the size of Easter eggs, and the largest measured stone the size of tennis balls at two and a half inches in southwest Jackson.

On 26 March 2023, hail at an inch and three quarters near Pine Grove did $750,000 in damage. On 16 June 2023, a 92 mile an hour thunderstorm wind event near Mount Moriah did $600,000 and injured one person. On 17 May 2025 hail reached two inches near Raymond, with the Weather Service noting a maximum of two and a quarter inches west of Jackson.

Across 2015 to 2025 Hinds County logged 539 storm events, including 281 thunderstorm wind reports and 48 hail reports, with 25 separate wind events at 69 miles an hour or higher. Those are county figures, and Hinds County holds several other municipalities, so they describe the weather pattern rather than one street.

Hail Bruises, Wind Creases, and Neither Leaks Today

Hail rarely punches a hole. It bruises the mat under the granules, which shortens the life of the shingle without leaking this year. Wind lifts and creases shingles without removing them, so a roof can be compromised and still look untouched from the street.

That is why the inspection happens on the roof with a camera, and why those photographs matter later. If a claim follows, evidence gathered before you file is worth far more than an argument afterwards.

The Leaks That Start Under the House

A share of Jackson repair calls are not weather at all. They are movement. The state geological survey describes Yazoo clay swelling with forces capable of lifting tons, then pulling down on what sits above it as it dries, and notes that this heave and shrinkage is rarely distributed evenly under a structure.

A house that racks slowly opens joints in slow motion, and the roof shows it at the rigid connections first: chimney counterflashing, roof-to-wall step flashing, the junction where an addition meets the original structure. Sealing that from above buys a season. Understanding why it opened tells you whether it will open again.

We will say which one you are looking at. Where the answer is drainage and grading rather than roofing, that is a cheaper conversation and you should have it.

Repair or Replace, and How We Decide

When the roof still has real life in it and the damage is contained, we repair it and give you an honest read on how long you have. Smaller job, smaller invoice, and we would rather do that than sell you a roof you do not need this year.

When it is finished, patching only postpones the same conversation by a season, and we will say so. If the house is in one of the five historic districts, the repair-versus-replace decision also decides your review path, since like-for-like work stays routine maintenance while a change of material does not.

If a storm caused it, decide between repair and claim before filing anything: see storm damage and insurance claims. On a covered claim, you pay your deductible. That is it.

FAQ

Common questions

How fast can you get to a leak in Jackson?

Active leaks get priority. Ring the office and we will tell you straight where the schedule stands rather than promise a day we cannot keep.

My roof looks fine from the ground. Could hail have damaged it?

Yes, and that is the normal case. In April 2022 the Weather Service measured hail the size of tennis balls in southwest Jackson. Hail bruises the mat under the granules and wind creases shingles without removing them.

Water comes in near the chimney every heavy rain. Why?

Usually flashing, and on Jackson stock often flashing that opened because the house moved. Yazoo clay heave is uneven under a structure, and the rigid connections give first. We check both the detail and the reason.

Should I file a claim for storm damage?

Worth deciding before you file. We document the damage properly first so the conversation with your adjuster rests on evidence. On a covered claim, you pay your deductible. That is it.
