Roof Repair in Ridgeland, MS

Done properly a repair protects everything around it. Done carelessly it moves the leak somewhere harder to find. We trace water back to where it entered rather than sealing the nearest suspicious spot.

Ridgeland also gives you a reason not to wait. The city property maintenance code requires the roof and flashing to be sound and tight, and gutters and downspouts to be kept in good repair and clear.

We set expectations up front and we do not over-promise. You approve every dollar before it becomes a bill.

What Actually Happened Here, With Dates

On 18 June 2023 at about seven in the evening an EF-1 tornado developed just east of Sunnybrook Road and tracked east-northeast straight through downtown Ridgeland at around 90 miles an hour. The National Weather Service survey recorded it crossing Maple Street, Central Avenue and Washington Street, noted that a home on North Wheatley Street had shingle damage, and found a business near US 51 that lost shingles and tin. The historic Wesley Chapel was blown off its foundation blocks.

Hail has done more cumulative roof damage than the tornadoes. On 13 March 2005 golf ball size hail fell just west of Ridgeland and the Weather Service wrote that it damaged many roofs and broke numerous windows, with a million dollars of property damage. Golf ball hail returned on 6 April 2003 and again on 20 April 2011, when quarter to golf ball size fell across the city.

Straight-line wind matters too. On 10 June 2023 a downburst estimated at 75 miles an hour ran from the Hinds County line northeast past Old Canton Road, blowing a tree across County Line Road, taking trees down in the Renaissance at Colony Park parking lot and stripping awnings and gutters at a church on Ridgecrest Drive.

Hail Bruises, Wind Creases, and Neither Leaks Today

Hail rarely punches a hole. It bruises the mat under the granules, which shortens the life of the shingle without leaking this year. Wind lifts and creases shingles without removing them, so a roof can be compromised and still look untouched from the street.

That is why the inspection happens on the roof with a camera, and why those photographs matter later. If a claim follows, evidence gathered before you file is worth far more than an argument afterwards.

Trees, Gutters and Where the Water Goes

Ridgeland targets a 40 percent tree canopy, and the storm record here is full of trees rather than roofs: a few dozen came down across the community in a single July 2009 storm. Limb strikes, constant leaf load in the valleys and gutters that overflow because they are packed are the ordinary repair calls in a city that shaded.

Where that water ends up matters more than people expect. Madison County sits in the Yazoo Clay belt, and the state geologists list rain gutter drainage among the causes of foundation movement in that ground. A gutter dumping against the house here is not purely a gutter problem.

Repair or Replace, and How We Decide

If the roof has real life left and the damage is contained, we repair it and give you an honest read on how long you have. Smaller job, smaller invoice, and we would rather do that than sell you something you do not need this year.

If it is finished, patching only postpones the same conversation by a season and we will say so. Where a storm is involved, decide between repair and claim before filing anything: see storm damage and insurance claims. On a covered claim, you pay your deductible. That is it.

FAQ

Common questions

How fast can you get to a leak in Ridgeland?

Active leaks get priority, and Ridgeland is about twelve miles from the shop. Call the office and we will tell you straight where the schedule stands rather than promise a day we cannot keep.

My roof looks fine from the ground. Could hail still have damaged it?

Yes, and that is the normal case. Hail bruises the mat under the granules and wind creases shingles without removing them. Both shorten the life of a roof without leaking the week it happens.

Does a repair need a permit here?

Not if it is coverings and flashings over sound decking. If the decking or the framing under it needs repair, the exemption no longer applies and a permit is required.

Should I file a claim for storm damage?

Worth deciding before you file. We document the damage properly first so the conversation with your adjuster rests on evidence. On a covered claim, you pay your deductible. That is it.
