In the yard
Latham Fiberglass Pools in Flowood, MS
A Latham shell is molded in a factory, trucked in whole and lowered by crane in a day. Nothing is assembled in your yard and nothing is poured in place, so there is no joint in it to open later.
We build Latham and nothing else. A company offering three construction methods is average at three of them, and we would rather do one thing the same way every time.
We built the Dickerson name on word of mouth. The pool division runs on the same habits: expectations set up front, no over-promising, and a quote that matches the bill.
In Flowood the Flood Map Decides Where It Goes
Everywhere else the first question is which shell you like. Here it is which part of your lot the city will let you build on, because roughly 47 percent of Flowood land area sits in the 1 percent annual chance floodplain.
The city building permit application asks for the flood zone of the work site, and development inside a special flood hazard area needs its own floodplain development permit with a minimum of three inspections. Flowood also holds new construction and substantial improvements to a lowest floor at least 18 inches above base flood elevation, a foot and a half beyond the federal minimum. That is a city that has thought hard about water.
For a pool it changes three things: where the shell sits, how high the equipment pad is set, and where the deck sheds. A shell is a fixed shape, so the smart order of operations is to settle the flood zone first and pick from what fits second. We establish it on your address at the site visit.

Kipling Clay East, Silt Loam Everywhere Else
Soil survey data across Flowood is dominated by Cascilla, Tippo, Gillsburg and Guyton, all silt loams with very low shrink-swell. Toward Old Fannin, Grants Ferry and the reservoir the Kipling soils take over: about a foot of silt loam over clay running 48 to 50 percent, classified with the shear surfaces that form from repeated swelling and drying.
A molded shell has some give to it, which is worth real money on the Kipling side and worth less on the silt loam side. We would rather tell you which of those two yards you own than sell the same sentence to both, and our own shop lot at 721 Liberty Rd sits on the low shrink-swell side, so we are not guessing from a map alone.
What Crane Day Looks Like From Ten Minutes Away
The shell arrives finished. It is lowered into a prepared excavation by crane, usually inside a day, and nothing about it is assembled or poured in your yard, so there is no seam in it to open in year eight.
We run that day ourselves rather than handing it to a subcontractor, and in Flowood the trucks start from inside the city. That matters less for the crane, which is scheduled either way, and more for everything around it: a second look at access before the date, a quick return when the weather moves the schedule, and someone on site who is not billing travel to get there.
The honest limit is access, not the catalog. A finished piece that size has to reach the backyard past the fence line, the canopy and the utilities. We measure it with a tape before you choose, and where fiberglass is the wrong answer for a shape or a yard, we say so.
One Written Number, and the Gelcoat Afterwards
After the site visit you get one written, itemized quote covering the work in scope, and that is what you are billed. Nothing turns up later from a subcontractor you never met, because there is no subcontractor.
Latham warrants the shell structurally and the installation is ours to stand behind. The surface itself is non-porous, which is why the ownership arithmetic favors it: algae has nothing to grip, chemical load stays lower, and the gelcoat never asks for the resurfacing cycle a plaster pool eventually does.
Financing runs through Lyon Financial and is worth settling before the dig rather than after it.

Common questions
Why fiberglass rather than concrete?
On the clay side of Flowood, a molded one-piece shell has enough give to move with ground that swells and shrinks instead of fighting it. Everywhere in the city, a non-porous surface holds far less algae than plaster or gunite.
Does the gelcoat need resurfacing?
Not on the cycle a plaster pool does. The finish is smooth, non-porous and durable, which is a large part of why long-run ownership costs less.
How many shapes can I choose from?
Latham makes a wide range. The real filter is crane access to your backyard, plus whatever the flood zone and drainage on your lot dictate. We tell you what genuinely fits after the site visit.
Is the shell under warranty?
Latham shells carry a manufacturer structural warranty, and the installation is ours to stand behind.
