Pool Builders Serving Vicksburg, MS
DC Pools & Spas is the pool division of Dickerson Contracting, and unlike our roofing side the pool crew is ours. We install genuine Latham fiberglass pools start to finish: excavation, base prep, crane set, plumbing and deck.
Vicksburg is our longest drive, about 45 minutes from the Flowood shop, and we would rather say that plainly than imply a crew parked in town. What does not change is who turns up: one crew and one point of contact from the first dig to the day you swim.
Most of our work still comes from word of mouth. The same standard on every pool install.

Vicksburg Adopted the Pool Code, So the Rules Are Written Down
The city adopted the 2018 international swimming pool and spa code. That sounds like a technicality and it is genuinely useful, because several cities in this metro adopted the building codes and left the pool code out, which leaves their requirements to be pieced together from zoning and inference.
Here the barrier standard is explicit. Not less than 48 inches high measured from the side facing away from the pool. No opening that passes a 4-inch sphere. No more than 2 inches of gap at grade over grass or gravel, 4 inches over a solid surface. A clear zone of at least 36 inches between the outside of the barrier and any pump, filter or heater a child could climb. And the pool side of the barrier at least 20 inches back from the water's edge.
Gates open outward away from the pool, are self-closing and self-latching, and take a lock. Where the latch release sits lower than 54 inches it goes on the pool side, at least 3 inches down from the top, with no opening over half an inch within 18 inches of it.
A permit is required for any pool over 24 inches deep holding more than 5,000 gallons, which is every inground pool in the city.

There Is No Pool Setback in the Zoning Ordinance
We looked, and we would rather tell you what is not there than invent a tidy number.
Vicksburg's zoning ordinance contains no swimming pool definition and no pool-specific setback. Placement is resolved as an accessory structure under the district's ordinary yard rules, and zoning approval has to come before the building permit. In R-1 that means 30 feet front, 10 feet each side, 10 feet rear, with buildings and accessory structures together covering no more than 35 percent of the lot. The pool counts toward that coverage.
So the honest answer to "how far from my fence can it go" is that the zoning administrator decides on your lot, and we get that settled before anything is dug. Anyone quoting you a fixed pool setback for Vicksburg is reading another city's ordinance.
A Pool on a Bluff Is a Slope Question First
This is engineering judgment rather than code, and we will label it as such.
Roughly 37 percent of Vicksburg is slopes of 17 to 40 percent, on silt that stands up beautifully while dry and consolidates when wetted. An excavated pool puts a large water-holding structure into that material and changes where water moves around it. The documented failure mode in this soil is saturation by ponding and water reaching the foot of a slope.
None of which means you cannot have a pool in Vicksburg. It means the site visit starts with the ground and the drainage rather than the catalogue, and that on a sloping lot the honest conversation may involve an engineer. We would rather raise that early than discover it with a crane on the clock.
Worth knowing as good news: the expansive clay that dominates the Jackson conversation is not the issue here. It covers about 7 percent of the city and sits on the flooded flats, not on the bluff.

Common questions
What barrier does Vicksburg require?
The city adopted the 2018 pool and spa code, so at least 48 inches high, no opening passing a 4-inch sphere, a 36-inch clear zone from climbable equipment, and gates that open outward, self-close and self-latch.
How far from the property line does a pool have to sit?
The zoning ordinance sets no pool-specific setback. Placement is handled as an accessory structure under the district yard rules, with zoning approval before the permit. In R-1 that is 30 feet front and 10 feet to the sides and rear, inside a 35 percent lot coverage cap.
Can I put a pool on a sloping lot here?
Often, but the ground comes first. Vicksburg silt loses strength when saturated and about 37 percent of the city is steep. We start with drainage and slope at the site visit, and on some lots that means bringing in an engineer.
Is there expansive clay under my yard?
Probably not. Warren County is outside the Yazoo clay belt and the formation sits over 230 feet down here. The expansive soils are about 7 percent of the city, on the flooded alluvial flats rather than the bluff.
