Latham Fiberglass Pools in Pearl, MS

A Latham shell is molded in a factory, trucked in whole and lowered by crane in a day. Nothing is assembled in your yard and nothing is poured in place, so there is no joint in it to open later.

We build Latham and nothing else. A company offering three construction methods is average at three of them, and we would rather do one thing the same way every time.

We set expectations up front and we do not over-promise. You approve every dollar before it becomes a bill.

Which Seven Percent Are You On

The soil argument for a molded shell is a real one, but it only applies where the soil actually moves, and in Pearl that is a minority of the city.

Soil survey data puts roughly 93 percent of mapped Pearl on Providence, Tippo, Smithdale, Guyton and Gillsburg silt loams, with low shrink-swell right through the profile. The remaining seven percent carries the Kipling and Tippah soils, whose clay runs to around half the material and whose extensibility is the highest class the survey records. Those sit as one block in southwest Pearl and a scatter of pockets across the southeast.

On the Kipling side a single flexible piece riding seasonal movement beats a rigid jointed assembly fighting it, and that is the honest case for fiberglass there. On the other 93 percent the case rests on the surface and on what ownership costs over twenty years. We tell you which yard you own rather than selling both the same sentence.

Pearl Tests What Is Under the Slab

Here is a detail that tells you something about this city. Pearl requires a compaction test before the foundation inspection on construction work. Most places around here do not ask.

That matters for a pool because compaction is the step everything else rests on. The base under a fiberglass shell has to be prepared and compacted properly, and a shell set on ground that settles will tell you about it for twenty years. It is the least glamorous part of the build and the one we will not rush.

Backfill is the same discipline in reverse, placed in lifts so the shell stays supported as the void closes rather than being flooded in and hoped for.

Owning One Through a Mississippi Summer

Fiberglass is non-porous, so algae has nothing to grip. Compare a plaster or gunite finish, which is microscopically rough by nature and gives algae a foothold every time the chemistry drifts.

Through a long summer here that shows up as lower chemical load and a shorter weekly routine, and the gelcoat never asks for the resurfacing cycle a plaster pool eventually does. Nobody buys a pool for its maintenance schedule, but you live with it for two decades.

Where fiberglass is the wrong answer we say so. A shape that only exists in concrete, or a yard no crane can serve, is a real answer rather than a sales objection.

Warranty, Financing and One Number

Latham warrants the shell structurally and we stand behind the installation. After the site visit you get one written, itemized quote, and that is what you are billed, with nothing turning up later from a subcontractor you never met.

Financing runs through Lyon Financial and is worth settling before the dig.

FAQ

Common questions

Why fiberglass rather than concrete in Pearl?

On the seven percent of the city with expansive Kipling or Tippah soil, a molded one-piece shell moves with the ground instead of fighting it. Everywhere else the case is the surface: non-porous gelcoat holds far less algae than plaster or gunite.

What is a compaction test and do I need one?

Pearl requires one before the foundation inspection on construction work. It verifies the ground under a slab is properly compacted. The same discipline applies to the base under a pool shell, which is the step everything else depends on.

Does the gelcoat need resurfacing?

Not on the cycle a plaster pool does. The finish is smooth, non-porous and durable, which is a large part of why long-run ownership costs less.

Is the shell under warranty?

Latham shells carry a manufacturer structural warranty, and the installation is ours to stand behind.
