Latham Fiberglass Pools in Jackson, MS
A Latham fiberglass pool arrives as one finished shell, made in a factory and lowered into the excavation by crane. The interior surface, the steps and any tanning ledge are part of that single piece rather than built up in the yard.
DC Pools & Spas is an authorized Latham builder, and fiberglass is what we install. Our crew sets the shell, plumbs it, pours the deck around it and starts the system up.
Most of our work still comes from word of mouth. The same standard on every pool install.
One Piece on Ground That Moves
Where Yazoo clay is present, the case for a one-piece shell starts underground. MDEQ describes the weathered layer of the clay as ten to thirty feet thick and counts it, with the thin soil zone above, as the troublesome part of the profile. A backyard pool is dug inside that layer, and digging deeper is no escape: the unweathered clay below, MDEQ notes, takes on the same behavior once it is exposed to air and water.
A shell molded in one piece has no joints of its own to open when the ground swells or shrinks unevenly. That does not make the soil irrelevant. It means the work that counts is the base under the shell and the backfill around it, built so the ground carries the pool evenly through wet seasons and dry ones.
Where the soil survey shows heavy clay at depth on your lot, we talk through the base and backfill on the site visit. MDEQ's own guidance records that granular backfill such as gravel and crushed rock has been used successfully, and that proper compaction of it is essential.

The Deck Sits on the Surface
The shell sits below grade. The concrete deck sits on top, directly over whatever the yard is made of.
MDEQ is specific about the mechanism. Uneven moisture drives the movement, and it lists leaking outside faucets, gutter drainage, tree roots and heavy watering of beds as causes of isolated movement. It also warns that improperly sealed expansion joints in sidewalks let water seep under the concrete and do considerable damage. Read pool deck for sidewalk and the advice carries straight over.
So the deck is planned for water: where splash-out runs, where the downspouts discharge, which way the slab falls and how the joints are sealed. Those decisions are made on paper before the pour.
Fitting a Shell Inside Jackson’s Lines
A fiberglass shell is a fixed size, so choosing one in Jackson starts with the lot rather than the catalog. Sixty feet from the front lot line in R-1, five feet from the side and rear lines, ten feet from any other structure and a cap on lot coverage all narrow the field before taste comes into it.
Then comes crane reach over the house or past the fence, and room for a deck wide enough to drain properly. The shells that clear all of that are the real shortlist, and we hand it to you after the site visit.

Common questions
Is fiberglass a good fit for Jackson soil?
Where the ground swells and shrinks, a one-piece shell has no seams of its own to open. The base, the backfill and the deck drainage still have to be right, and that is where the planning time goes.
Do you build anything other than Latham?
No. DC Pools & Spas is an authorized Latham builder and installs Latham fiberglass pools, spas and tanning ledges.
How do I know which shell fits my yard?
Start with the lot. Jackson’s accessory-structure setbacks, the spacing from other structures, lot coverage and crane access narrow the list. We bring the shells that genuinely fit after the site visit.
Can I finance a fiberglass pool?
Yes, for qualified homeowners, through Lyon Financial. Settle it before the dig is scheduled.
