In the yard
Latham Fiberglass Pools in Vicksburg, MS
A Latham shell is molded in a factory, trucked in whole and lowered by crane in a day. Nothing is assembled in your yard and nothing is poured in place, so there is no joint in it to open later.
We build Latham and nothing else. A company offering three construction methods is average at three of them, and we would rather do one thing the same way every time.
We built the Dickerson name on word of mouth. The pool division runs on the same habits: expectations set up front, no over-promising, and a quote that matches the bill.
Forget the Clay Argument. This Is Silt.
Everywhere else in this metro the case for a molded shell leans on expansive clay: ground that swells and shrinks, and a single flexible piece riding it better than a rigid jointed assembly. In Vicksburg that argument does not apply, and repeating it would just be a Jackson brochure with the city name changed.
Warren County is not among the eleven counties in the Yazoo clay outcrop belt, and the Corps of Engineers states the formation sits at least 230 feet below Vicksburg and does not outcrop here at all. What you have instead is loess: 100 to 109 feet of windblown silt, 75 to 90 percent silt-sized, with a porosity of 45 to 53 percent.
That soil does not heave. It does something else. It holds a near-vertical face while dry and loses strength when water gets into it. So the real question for a pool here is not how the ground will move with the seasons, it is how water will move around the finished pool, and whether the lot slopes.

Why the Shell Still Suits This Ground
A one-piece shell arrives finished and is set in a day, which means the excavation is open for a short window rather than a long one. On collapsible silt, an open hole standing through a week of rain is the condition you are trying to avoid.
The base under the shell is prepared and compacted before it is set, and backfill goes in lifts so the shell stays supported as the void closes. That discipline matters more here than it does on clay, because a poorly compacted base in silt does not just settle, it settles where the water goes.
And the surface argument holds everywhere. Fiberglass is non-porous, so algae has nothing to grip. A plaster or gunite finish is microscopically rough by nature and gives algae a foothold every time the chemistry drifts, and it eventually asks for a resurfacing cycle the gelcoat does not.
Choosing a Shell for a Vicksburg Lot
The filter is rarely the catalogue. A finished piece that size has to reach the backyard past the fence line, the canopy and the utilities, and on the bluff side of town access is genuinely the constraint: narrow side yards, mature trees and grades that a crane has to be set up for properly rather than optimistically.
Add the lot coverage cap, since the pool counts toward the 35 percent, and the list of shells that actually fit is usually shorter than the brochure. We work it out on the site visit and hand you the ones that work.
Where fiberglass is the wrong answer we say so. A shape that only exists in concrete, or a yard no crane can serve, is a real answer rather than a sales objection.
Warranty, Financing and One Number
Latham warrants the shell structurally and we stand behind the installation. After the site visit you get one written, itemized quote, and that is what you are billed, with nothing turning up later from a subcontractor you never met.
Financing runs through Lyon Financial and is worth settling before the dig.

Common questions
Is Vicksburg on Yazoo clay like Jackson?
No. Warren County is outside the eleven-county outcrop belt, and the Corps of Engineers puts the formation at least 230 feet down here with no outcrop. The ground is deep windblown silt, which behaves completely differently.
Why fiberglass if the ground does not heave?
Because the shell is set in a day, which keeps the excavation open for a short window rather than a long one on soil that dislikes getting wet. And the surface is non-porous, so it holds far less algae than plaster or gunite.
Does the gelcoat need resurfacing?
Not on the cycle a plaster pool does. The finish is smooth, non-porous and durable, which is a large part of why long-run ownership costs less.
Is the shell under warranty?
Latham shells carry a manufacturer structural warranty, and the installation is ours to stand behind.
